Why do tropical birds like parrots live longer than other birds?

  • When comparing lifespans of birds to birds or sea turtles to tortises. Why do some species lifespans extreamly differ in comparrison to others when they're genis are alike? Moreover, and most important to me, why can't my cat live as long as a small parrot? She is 10 yrs. my best friend and hasn't long on this earth with me. My heart aches knowing her life is at it's decline and I'll someday be without her sweet loving body next to mine.

    Parrots are known to have long lives--some live as long as 80 year, but they are not the only birds that do. I believe the the Royal Albatross is known to live 58 years and that is not in captivity. Unfortunately the Starling lives about 20 years. Some animals live longer than others. Of course you will be sad when your cat dies. You will then have a choice. You can get another cat to enjoy and keep you company or not. That is just the way life is.

i think that birds have a longer lifespan becasue they originate in asia and they say that the birds have such great comoflauge to their surroundings and they arnt as big as cats so their joints are less likly to get damaged. I know how you feel about your best friend cat and i feel your pain. just know that even though shes not with you, you can keep her in your heart for eternity. Look at her and tell your cat that even if she might leave some day your glad that you have met her.
