Rabbit Bonding Problems! Please Help!?

  • I am trying to bond my 2 spayed female rabbits. Its been going on for several months now, but I have not been too consistent. They have never hated each other and just sorta did the whole sniffing and dominance establishing thing. I never used to let my dominant bunny mount the other one because it seemed to scare her, but then I found that a little bit is OK. My submissive rabbit would bow her head asking to be groomed but then she would just get mounted. So after I let the dominant bun hump for a bit, it pretty much completely stopped and she seemed confident in her ranking! Then a lot of progress started happening and I have them bonding in a little playpen in semi-neutral area, this all was going great but then my submissive rabbit got a bit mean. If she's eating food and my other rabbit hops over to her, she boxes her really meanly for just like 1 second. The other rabbit doesn't seem to mind so much though, but I know that they are not switching places as some rabbits do when they try to figure out the rankings, because when my (used to be) submissive rabbit gets too out of hand, my other rabbit will mount her to make sure she knows who's boss, and then it calms down But my dominant rabbit is now the one asking for grooming and she will hop over to the other one, (which I think scares the submissive one into reminiscing of the mounting days!) then she'll get boxed. >:( I know this is really long, but I'm desperate and really discouraged, they were doing so well, I was even looking for bigger cages! Is there any advice for stopping the sudden meanness, or some encouragement you could give me? Thanks so much in advance!

  • Answer:

ugh this happened to my bunnies just keep them in the same cage and pet the mean one at the time a lot to calm her down they should grow to eachother quickly
