Animals in Banff,Alberta Canada?

What are some domesticated animals that live all over Canada?

  • I'll be moving to Canada & I have found out that rabbits live everywhere in Canada, do they cause any harm, do they bite? Is it illegal to keep any of them at home if I decide to chase one and keep it? Are they like pests? Cuz I sure don't want to die from rabies or any health problems because of them. And what are other animals in Canada that live everywhere just like rabbits?

  • Answer:

Well, there are domesticated rabbits in Canada (such as pets and rabbits kept for food and fur) but Canada also has native wild rabbits such as cotton tails and snow hares. I wouldn't recommend trying to catch one of these for a pet, as they are wild, and although rabbits don't look it, they can be very aggressive and bite. You're also right that they can carry rabies...although you will not get this unless you go out of your way to touch a wild rabbit. They are very wary animals and will run from you. I have lived in North America all my life, though, and have never come across a rabid rabbit. If you are looking to own your own rabbit, you can get one from a pet store. They are tame and also have had shots so they will not carry any diseases. Other domesticated animals (meaning bred and kept by humans) in Cananda are: Cattle, Dogs, Cats, Sheep, Pigs, Chickens, Turkey, Goats, Horses, Geese, and more exotic animals such as Llamas, Alpaca, and Bison. There are plenty of others but this is just the main groups.
