How much does it cost to get a rabbit spayed?

Stupid me didn't get round to having one of my female rabbits spayed as she is in her own run.?

  • The wire is metal so you would think she would be safe from the amourous advances of my bunny boys, but there is Pixie the psycho bunny who somehow managed to gnaw through the wire and get into Poppy's run.I found them together and I have never seen him look so happy or tired.I have enough rabbits so I don't want anymore .I phoned the vets to see if there was the rabbit equivelent to the morning after pill and they said there isn't ,the only thing to do would be to give her a hysterectomy which would neuter her and terminate the pregnacy if she has got pregnant but this would cost £70 .What I don't understand is how come a morning after pill has been invented for humans but they haven't invented one for rabbits especially as the human one was probably tested on rabbits. Also, why is it so expensive to get a rabbit spayed.

  • Answer:

Well, if it was tested on rabbits, it must be safe for rabbits. So just get her the human pills! (And don't forget to feed them to her, or she'll have a different excuse.)

You could house them together if you got them both fixed. Female rabbits have a higher rate of cancer if you don't spay them. You should consider this after she gives birth.

There are many expensive for a Vet when they spay any animal. That is why it costs so much. If you decide to get the bunny spayed while she's pregnant keep in mind that you will be killing baby bunnies. My advise is let her have the babies and then get her spayed something you should have done right away, especially since you have a male bunny around. If you don't want the baby bunnies, can't afford to have them all spayed or neutered once they are born then give them to an animal rescue group and they will find loving homes for them. You can lok on www.pets911.com to search for a local rescue group in your area.

It's expensive because veterinary school is hard to get into and even harder to get out of with a degree. Vets have about twenty years of education before they're allowed to practice and many of them have whopping student loans to repay. And, er, congratulations, I guess.

MY FAMILY HAS 8 RABBITS. THE MALES DO ANYTHING TO GET TO THE FEMALES, ANYTHING. SOME OF OUR RABBITS HAVE EVEN BECOME PREGNANT THROUGH THE FENCING! LET HER HAVE THE BABIES, THEN SELL THEM! YOU CAN MAKE A PROFIT FROM THEM THAT WAY, AND YOU WON'T HAVE LOTS OF LITTLE ONES RUNNING ABOUT. AFTER THE BABIES ARE WEANED SEPERATE THE FEMALE FROM THE MALES AND MAKE SURE THERE IS NO WAY FOR THEM TO GET EACH OTHER, OR SPEND THE MONEY AND GET HER SPAYED, IT'LL BE WORTH IT NOT TO HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT ANYMORE.

Male Rabbits will to anything to get to females, if its chewing through wire or kicking at it with their hind legs, they'll do it. Spay one of them... It'll pay. Are you sure she's pregnant, anyway?
