If a Paramedic answers an emergency call, but when they arrive, the bystander dies, what happens then?

Gaa! Why do people go to Yahoo Answers for emergency help with their pets when they should call a vet??

  • Most namely, I'm talking about situations such as: "HELP!! My cat just vomited blood and passed out on the living room floor! Whatdoidowhatdoidowhatdoidowhatdoido?!?!… Or, "My dog is in labor! PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO!" Or, "My cat drank 2 bottles of cyanide. Will she die??" Every time I see questions like these, I can't help but wonder: "Why are you on the computer and not at a vet?" Or, "Why can't you pick up the phone and call a vet? They can help a lot better than we Y!A users can." Rather cynical, I know, but it's the truth. And even for experienced vet technicans, it's hard to diagnose the pet's illness/condition/problem just by a brief online description. *sigh* Why do some people go straight to Y!A for emergency help on their pets instead of going to a vet?? (Yes, I know, some people cannot afford a vet appointment, but if that's the case, then why not call the vet's office for advice?)

    I agree to an extent, there are some that are so obviously an emergency situation, that you can only pray that they are a wind up. But I think that some are genuine, and are just wanting to check, now I'm a sane sensible grown up, bit still it can be hard to decide the right thing to do, so I can understand people wanting to ask questions. I know that when I had my first baby, if YA had been around then, I would of been on asking stupid questions in the middle of the night when there was no one else to turn to. I get annoyed by the other side of this coin as well, there are clear non emergency situations on here as well, where the answers are all go to the vet. Some of these could easily be a 'wait 24 hours' situation. Having worked with a vet for a while, I know how much he hated being called out of bed for trivial matters, eg the 3 am call saying my dog is limping.

I agree, I think sometimes people just need to reach out no matter what the situation. I try to believe that these people do take their pets to get proper help for them.

The same reason they come into the pet shop for medications that it is unlawful for us to sell. They do not have or do not want to spend the money at the Vet. Unfortunately to some, pets are on the lowest end of life forms. They will buy beer and cigarettes but not anything to prevent an unwanted litter, immunizations, routine vet care or emergency vet care. I see this all the time. Some of these same people are the ones who chain the dog to a tree without food and water on hot days or let them freeze to death in the winter.

People do this all the time on any subject. I think most are fake and its for attention

Give them the benefit of the doubt...... alot of them are probably children. (At least I hope so!)

I agree. It is not just with pets, I recently answer a question where a person thought she was having a appendicitis. As it turns out, she was.

Well I always call the vet if there is an emergency involving one of my animals. If it's not an emergency I might post something on here but still I usually just wait and call the vet. I think also that some of the questions are not even real that people are making them up for shock value.

I am hoping scratchy Joe is right and it is just people pulling our leg! It is hard for me to not know. I worry about the animals and children some of these people post about. Love our children & pet's, Pandora
