How to take care of caterpillars?

Help! Have Four Newly Hatched Monarch Caterpillars. How do I take care of them?

  • I kept monarch caterpillars many years ago, but I have forgotten just what care they need. I have them in a clean fish tank with two sticks and some milkweed leaves. They're crawling around and they're VERY small (just hatched). What do they need?

  • Answer:

Caterpillars are easy to care for, give them lots of milkweed, remove old milkweed and replace with fresh, and clean the frass from their container regularly. If you wrap the stems of the milkweed leaves with wet paper towel it will help them stay fresh longer. When they are ready to pupate, they will crawl to the top of their container and attach themselves.
