How long does green algae grow?

How to grow algae for a 15 gallon tank?

  • Hi im 13 and have a 15 gallon aquarium with some guppies ... And would like to grow some algae to put on some of my ornaments (i think it looks cool when there is like a layer of 2cm of algae flowing in the current). I also have a empty 3.5 gal that is completely empty that i could try and grow algae in but i dont know how i could then put it on my ornaments in my 15 G Any sugestions would be great Thanks

  • Answer:

Algae needs both a strong, excessive light and excess nutrients to grow. You could use the empty 3.5 gallon and place it by the window and add a bit of fish food every day to provide extra nutrients. I would not house anything in the tank while its near the window as it will over heat. Planted tanks with live plants also tend to have a bit more algae.

Lots and lots of sunlight/artificial sunlight. Leave the thing on as much as possible, but be careful it does not affect your fish. Fish also need to sleep and having the lights on 24/7 is like us being outside in the sun trying to sleep, awaiting for night to come but night never comes *has a panic attack* Otherwise, the alternative is Why not try growing Java moss on your ornaments?

I also like algae on my ornaments. Fill the 3G with water and put the ornaments in, then put this tank in a window that gets lots of sun. Make sure you top off evaporated water and you should have lots of algae in no time.
