How many cichlids should I keep in one tank?

Can I keep my Cichlids tank in Indirect Sunlight?

  • I'm having a 64g tank & I'm planning to stock cichlids in it. I read somewhere that cichlids should b kept away from d/id sunlight! I want to keep keep my cichlids tank in the Veranda of our house. I'm sure, that it would make a good show during the nights. But, I'm worried about the day times, during which we get a lot of light (i.e.) id sunlight into our house. We have a Portico b4 our veranda about 8-9 feet in length. Still we get a lot of id sunlight. Is it really possible to set-up my cichlids tank in our veranda? Any ideas & suggestions plzzz....

  • Answer:

I don't think it's a problem if the sunlight isn't beaming into your tank. Since it's indirect sunlight, it should be fine. I have my 55g tank in my room below my bed which is next to a huge window, so the tank gets indirect sunlight as well, and it's been running for well over two years now with no algae problems. If your tank does get algae growths, you can simply purchase a magnetic algae scrubber and scrub the algae off the tank walls, if need be.
