Which fresh water snail species is the best for me?

  • i want a snail for my fresh water tank, ive heard they can breed on their own (without a partner) and that they can eat aquarium plants. is there any snail that does NOT do both of these above? oh and i only want one! thx

    Nerite snails. They can only breed in brackish water. And if they do lay eggs in freshwater, it won't hatch. Just to make sure, they are freshwater and brackish water snails. They lay white squarish eggs which most people think it's disgusting.

A mystery snail aka apple snail is either a male or female, not both. They cannot reproduce on their own. I have a java fern in my tank and my snail won't touch it. He likes the algae wafers. They come in a couple of different colors and get up to 2 inches long. They're hardy to withstand water conditions. Just make sure you have a lid, I've heard some interesting storys of people's snails crawling out.
