What fish should I get next for my tropical fish tank?

I have a tropical fish tank - I want a few types of fish, what fish can I get that are small colourful?

  • Do not grow bigger than half an average persons hand Cost for maintenance and to buy is relatively small Do not reproduce very often Colourful and different varieties Fish that don't fight with eachother or eat eachother Thanks to any suggestions xx

  • Answer:

well im assuming you have a 10 or 20 gallon tank so get 8-10 neon tetras 3-6 male guppies 4-6 platys 2-3 snails (get different colours because they only mate if they are the same colour) 3-4 white clouds 2-3 corydoras catfish (cory cat for short) the first number is the 10 gallon the second is for 20 add 2 for 30.

You could get all male guppies. They are very colorful and wouldn't reproduce. I've thought of doing this myself but I don't have a tank for it right now. They definitely wouldn't grow too big and wouldn't eat each other - fighting would be minimal with no females. You could also throw in some male danios into the mix and possibly a couple snails or a pleco, depending on the size of your tank. Small tetras, like neons, would do well but they do best with a larger school of them (5+).

When in doubt, go with damsels. They come in a wide variety of colors and, if introduced at the same time, will not be that territorial. They are hardy fish and fun to watch.

I bought a few neon tetras - they're pretty, hardy, and I've never managed to get them to reproduce. Just don't put them in with an angelfish - they are the natural predators.

Blue Peacocks, they're beautiful fish! As well, you can get Neon Tetra's, they're small, but pretty. You could also get a Pleco, or maybe a Cory Catfish, and maybe some Barbs. :D

Harlequin Rasbora Endlers will reproduce but the fry would be good for the rest of the fish population health wise Serpae Tetras

Bettas are a colourful popular fish that originate in the warm waters of Thailand and parts of South East Asia. In the wild they live in slow moving streams and rice paddies often low in dissolved oxygen. As a result bettas have developed specialized organs that allow them to breathe surface air allowing them to survive in mud puddles. Bettas are best kept in warm water around 25 degrees, and become inactive at temperatures below 22 degrees. Because they can be jumpers and a breathable lid or cover is recommended. Bettas do best in soft water with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Bettas should be kept in clean warm water. http://herefish.com/Small_Setups.jpg

Well i believe that cardinal tetras are very coloful and very pretty. They like to be in groups so keep about six of them at a time. They will school and you will see a flow of color all throughout the tank. EDIT: cardinals are just like neons except they are slightly larger and more hardy. They are also immune to the imfamous neons disease. Yup just another reason to get them instead.
