Black spots on my fish?

Black spots all over Betta fish?

  • I noticed last night that my Betta fish has black spots all over his fins. To me, they look like normal freckles seen on some Betta fish, but I'm not sure. They are small and regular, in a pattern. I've had this Betta for about 3 months now. I recently got him a new, bigger tank (from a bowl). He used to not swim around too much, was pale, but now his colors are always intense. My fish also is REALLY active now; swimming around all the time and eating well. He has a heater at about 70 degrees, and his tank is conditioned. I tested the water and the levels are good. So are these freckles normal? (For example, are they a physical response to being happier and in better conditions?) or are they something that I should worry about?

  • Answer:

I have never sceen a polka dotted betta, but he might be changing colors a liitle slowly now that he is feeling better. Raise the temperature with an adjustable heater a few degrees a day untill it is at a stable temperature between 78 and 82. Feed him healthy betta pellets or flakes "the first 5 ingrediants should include some fish or shrimp or squid" Also feed him some unthawed frozen blood worms and brine shrimp. His maximum colors should come out within several weeks.

I'm sure, but it may be him just changing colors. I have a guppy who had spots and his body turned that color(blue/green).
