Glass thickness?

What thickness of glass would be used to make a 2'L by 2'W by 4'H fish tank?

  • i would like to know type of glass and thickness if possible both for sides and bottom, thank you

  • Answer:

Why would you want a tank like that? lol. That's ridiculously high, and not wide enough. Doesn't offer enough swimming space. But either way. That's only 119 gallons. 3/8" Try visiting this site. :) It can tell you everything! http://www.garf.org/Tank/BuildTank.asp

Other answers

3/8 would be the minimum and not a very safe tank. 1/2 inch is much better! So a safe range is about 9mm on up, with 12mm or 14mm being best. (about 3/8 inch to a little over a half inch) Plate or Annealed Glass is best because you can work with it. You can get it at most window stores. Tempered glass is strong, but will shatter easily and cannot be cut or adjusted easily at all. Avoid tempered unless you are ordering the glass pre cut and are just assembling it.
