What is the best spoon for red fish?

Does leaving a silver spoon in a fish aquarium keep the water cleaner? ?

  • So I have heard and read in some articles that back in the day people used to keep their water clean by putting silver coins and other silver objects into the water jugs/barrels. I have a 5 gallon fish tank and to keep the water going bad quick I put 1 silver spoon under the rocks..will it harm the fishes and or water or no.

  • Answer:

I would take it out immediately. Without knowing anything about its works for keeping human water safe, keeping fish water clean is an entirely different matter. Fish rely on the water to breathe and absorb it through their skin as well. It fills their mouths and such just like air does ours. Metals in the water can create toxic conditions and actually poison them. Silver isn't listed as a common metal toxin for fish, but that's likely only because the most common ones are the ones found in traditional tap/well water or fish medication. I would remove it to be safe.
