How do you feed a blind oscar?

What are some healthy live foods to feed my oscar?

  • I have a baby oscar he is about 5 inches in length. Yesterday i went to the pest store and bought some feeder minnows. I originally purchased them because i am going out of town and i wanted him to have something to snack on while i was gone for 2 days. Turns out an hour later i looked in the fish tank and all the fish were gone.. (except my smiling oscar of course). I was wondering is that is unhealthy for him to eat so many at one time and if the minnows are good for him, if not what are some fish i can feed him that are healthy?

  • Answer:

You feed feeder fish and the chances your fish gets diseases are certainly greater. I personally would recommend a stable pellet diet such as "NLS Cichlid Formula". Thats all your fish needs. http://www.cichlidexplorer.com/new-life-spectrum-cichlid-formula/ If you must feed feeder fish I would have them in a separate tank and treat with anti-parasite medication first such as Metro. http://www.cichlidexplorer.com/seachem-laboratories-metronidazole/

You are in for some stick on here. There is no need to feed live fish to an oscar. A well balanced diet is the key. I have fed Oscar's many live foods like daphne (yes they are small but he ate them) meal worms from online suppliers, earth worms but mainly Cichlid pellets. Offer up many types of food or he will become picky
