What is the best way to clean my aquarium?

What is the best way to get rid of algae on aquarium walls ?

  • I have a small 3 gallon fish tank. What is the best way to get rid of algae on the walls ? I change the water all the time and clean the glass but after about a week it comes back.

  • Answer:

    1. is the tank in view of a window and getting direct sunlight? if so, move it to a shadier corner of the room, and make sure any tank lights are not left on for any longer than 8 hours. 2. invest in a mag scraper, these are fantastic for scraping away the algae without getting your fingers/arm/floor too wet. algae is a natural occurance in all tanks and will show up in every tank, the levels can be adjusted naturally. 3 gallons is far too small to consider any algae-eating fish, they all grow too large. i'm assuming the tank is filtered, if so it only really needs a water change of about 20-25% once a week.

wrap a piece of gauze on a long stick, use this to mop the glass every week or so ... I have the same problem, have so far been unable to find a more permanent solution

Credit card works well if the sides are flat to remove it. Keep it out of the sun and if you change all the water all the time that by it self can make algae bloom

Don't put your aquarium in the heat of the sun and place a filter. Also try to get some fishes like plecos to eat the algea.

buy a uv light, keep it away from sun, mop the wall, and dont feed them too much.

The best and easiest way to deal with algae problems is to avoid it all together. I advise putting your tank on a timer, and getting it out of the sun. The algae may simply be because of the size or shape of your tank. You can purchace death-to-algae solution however, in my experiences with this stuff, it has affected my fishes behavoir. I reccomend avoiding it if at all possible. Any kind of a sponge will do the trick. Just make sure that whatever you clean with is not contaminated and will not scratch your tank. Acryllic scratches easily, glass no so much. My all time favorite tool is the finger nail brush it works great for cleaning glass tanks. For removing algae, a sponge works just as well.

Get an algae scraper. It removes it quickly and efficiently. You could also get some of those "algae b-gone" formulas. Or you could get an algae-eating fish, such as a pleco or a chinese algae eater.

With a razor blade. Be careful not to cut yourself or the fish! lol ßübblëš
