How long do petstores guppys live for?

  • The pet store that im getting mine from is a place called maidenhead aquatics and its all over the UK...its a trusted store and they select their fish, how long would you say their guppys live for on a average?...thnks

    Normally guppies live for 2 years, even longer, but the pet store ones might live only 6 month or so because of the inbreeding. Most of the pet stores get their guppies from Asia because there they have beautiful and very cheap fish, but the problem is that there they breed for beauty not for health. They want to get beautiful fish so you buy it, not fish that lives long. You still can be lucky and get some genetically healthy fish that will live for 2-3 years. Anyway don't worry about the lifespan of guppies as they will breed like rabbits and in a short time you will get loads of them. this is you buy both males and females, or pregnant females, of course. If you buy only males they will not breed, indeed.
