How do these fish sound for a 29 gallon?

Stocking a new 29 gallon fish tank?

  • I just got a new 29 gallon fish tank. I want to find what fish can go nicely. I already have a 10 gallon fish tank that is cycling and is going to become a betta tank for the male halfmoon im going to get. The tank came with a penguin 200 bio wheel filter , flourescent hood, and a 200 watt thermometer. I was thing about having 3 fantails cause i no they get big. I really want the tank to be a planted feature but i want very elegant fish to go in it. I know bettas can't be housed together but with so much space and plantage that im going to have is it possible to have 2 halfmoons in there? If not will the 3 fantails be ok? How big do they get? Will the 200 penguin filter be ok to handle that bio load?

  • Answer:

Fantail Goldfish eat Bettas, eat plants and an adult one stocks a 29g all by itself! Bettas and Goldies also need water temperatures at opposite ends of the scale. Two Halfmoons in a 29g would find each other and pull each other to pieces, to the point you end up with two dead "plakats" instead. Always risky, no matter the tank size, housing two male fancy Bettas, a male/female pair can kill each other too. That doesn't mean you're out of options, far from it!
