Do fiddler crabs fight?

Can Hermit Crabs live together with Fiddler Crabs ?

  • Can Hermit crabs live in a 20 gallon fish tank with half land and half water with fiddler crabs? I want to know if they will fight. On youtube it had a video of Hermit Crabs in a tank with fiddler crabs.

  • Answer:

Those crabs need two different living conditions, other wise it is not a good idea, a fiddler crab is very agressive and most likely will fight with the hermit., The water conditions are different for each different species of hermit crabs, some live in the salt marshes and some live down by the ocean side where the water is of a higher than the fiddlers that live in the salt marshes. The hermit prefers fresh water unless it is a Ecuadorian, they like salt water and another hermit species like a brackish water , which is a fresh/salt water mixture as the fresh water streams flow into the marshes or ocean. They need different depths of substrates, the hermit does not need as deep as tank as the fiddler. Different food too, the fiddlers are scavengers of dead animal; material and the hermit crabs are into fruits, vegies, and fish/shrimp based commercial foods. Some one asked this question before you that I answered below. Best Answer - Chosen by Asker They both need different requirements, is the Fiddler needs a deeper tank for borrowing, the fiddler is more agressive, it depends on the water requirements of both crabs too. I would say no to that, I would get two tanks and keeep each one as close to it's natural habitat as possible. not a good idea. fighting is possible. also some hermit crabs need salt water, some need fresh. fiddler crabs are brackish... obviously it "can" be done, but you don't know how many died, how long it "worked" for or anything like that. bottom line, bad idea. just because someone "can" do it doesn't mean it is a good idea or that you should. good idea to research it before going out and trying it too :)
