What do betta fish eggs look like?

Question about how to look after fish eggs.?

• I have a pond outside and have had three fish living in it until two very recently died. I think the remaining fish has laid eggs in the pond and I'm not quite sure how too look after them. I've put down a cloth, which is what I heard you should do but I'm not sure if the fish will continue to lay eggs? And is there anything I can do about the eggs that are already in the pond? And if they do hatch, is there anything I need to do to take care of them? Some help would be much appreciated as I'm keen to have some baby fish!

  Well, if the fish laid eggs after the other fish died, then they are not fertile and will not hatch. If it is continuing to lay eggs, they are all duds. When a female fish lays eggs, it needs a male to fertilize them. With the other fish dead, its not very likely these are fertile eggs. Honestly, you cannot remove them, and unless you have a heated pond, I don't think you can do much of anything. If these are fish meant to live in the winter outdoors then perhaps they will hatch. However, I don't think it is likely. Fish usually spawn in the spring or in water seasons. I'm not too sure about fall and winter spawnings. You never know. Eggs usually hatch pretty quickly. I am not sure what type of fish you have, but I would wait 20 days from when you noticed them to see if any baby fish are swimming around. Good luck! :)
