How do you feed a blind oscar?

How old goes an oscar have to be to feed it live food?

  • my red oscar is only 1.5-2 inches long. i have had him for 4 days and he is still abit quiet and hides whenever i come near the tank. is he to young to feed him live food? maybe bloodworms? also i live near a creek that is filled with tiny silver fish about 1-2 cm long and small shrimp that range from microscopic to a couple of cm. would these be good prey for my oscar or would they make is sick? thanx

  • Answer:

I wouldn't feed fish from the wild to your oscar. It can carry diseases and parasites. As long as the oscar can eat it in one gulp, without holding half of it in its mouth, it it can suffocate. But feeders aren't the best source of food, UNLESS, you grow your own feeders/guppies and plump them up yourself. At least you know they are free of diseases and you plumped them up with food and veggies. Pellets, beefheart and bloodworms are fine to feed your oscar. Along with water changes and at least a 55 gallon or more, your oscar should be a foot or more in no time. ("'\(o.o)/"')
