Can I add any of these fish to my tank?

What fish can add to my tank setup without anyone getting eaten?

  • I have convict chiclid who is about 4 inches long, and he is hand tamed but very very very skittish. he is afraid of his own reflection and minds his own business. i have a firemouth chiclid who is only about 1 and 1/2 inches long. he is also handtamed and is not verry aggresive at all. I also have Senegal Bichir about 3 inches long and he is a verry nice addition. i am planning on re-decorating my tank with aquarium sand, real plants, tanglerock and caverock and ect. for a more realistic tank... the tank size is not a problem, however i dont want anything verry large. So, what different kinds of fish could i add to my tank... i want to add some color. would an eel be ok, or some kind of realy pretty chiclid that wont be to aggressive for my tank. maybe an oddball fish like some sort of knife maybe. i dont want anything too plain and simple.

i'm gonna make it simple and honestly tell you that it's best not to add any other fish, because you are at the risk of overstocking the tank.

Actually, tank size is a problem, as is your concept of "very large". "Very large" for some could mean Iridescent Shark large (around 3 feet), while it could mean Senegal Bichir large (around 1 foot) to others. Consider a species of Geophagus, if you want a nice mix of attractive coloration and interesting behavior (they sift through the sand with their mouths). I suggested Silver Dollars in your earlier question, but if you're keeping live plants, that's not a good idea-- they'll feast on them. Congo Tetras would be a much better choice, along with African Butterfly Fish (very odd), Ctenopoma or Leaf Fish, or Rainbows. Depending on your tank size, an eel may or may not work. You want to avoid overstocking the substrate level of your tank, creating too much competition between the Bichir, Cichlids, and eel. Also consider that some of the commonly sold eels are actually herbivorous and will eat your plants.
