Is it hard to breed zebra danios?

Which is easier to breed, zebra danios or jumbo neon tetras?

  • i want to breed one of them but i dont know which one is easier? any tips on breeding the two would help.

  • Answer:

You will find the zebra danio extremely easy to breed and the neon tetra much more difficult. Go to pet shops and obtain "Tropical Fish Hobbyist Magazine" you will learn tons and there are plenty of fish breeding books. The biggest tips I can advise are 1. Separate the sexes except when breeding. Think about it from your own perspective. If you had been kept from the opposite sex a long time... get it? 2. Frequent water changes 3. Making sure to match acceptable water temperature and conditions for the species. Oh yeah, breeding fish and hatching their eggs and raising their offspring are completely different worlds. For fish that small you'll want to culture infusoria and perhaps rotifers. Then live brine nauplii. If you don't know what any of this is or how to do it, head to the pet shop and get the books because you honestly aren't ready yet. Try livebearers first like Molly's (who don't eat their young) or swordtails/guppies who will immediately eat their own young.

are these animals, or did you just watch willy wonka and the chocolate factory?

The zebra danio is much easier to breed than any tetra. The neon is especially difficult to breed. I've never bred a neon. I have breed zebras, but did nothing special, except remove the newly hatched fish to a separate tank.
