How can I teach my conure to stop biting?

How do i train my green cheek conure parrot to stop biting me and to be nice?

  • my green cheek conure is very mean and i don't know why. i get her out and play with her everyday, i feed and water her, i put her in the shower when shes moulting. i don't know what her problem is. she can be nice when she wants to be though. she attacks my family members. i dont know what to do plz help me trian her to be nice and not bite. how can i train her?

    Without more information, it's impossible to give you any good advice. When is she biting you? Are you holding her? Trying to pet her on her perch? Trying to get her out? When does she bite your family? When they're in the same room? When they try to touch her? Sounds like you and your family should have researched these little parrots a bit more. The entire conure family is full of nippers--it's just what they do. You can teach them bite inhibition, to a point, so they aren't taking big chunks out of you for silly reasons (like when they're stepping up), but there is no way of making them stop biting... they use their beaks as their hands, it's not their fault our skin is far more sensitive than their feathers. ETA: The less reaction you have to her biting, the better. Do not say "No" as previously suggested, birds are not dogs... whether it's positive or negative, they LOOOOOVE getting a reaction from you.

Firstly its a girl, Girl birds usually are more aggressive then boys but anyway we cant change that. My sisters cockatiel does the same thing but u first need to teach it that it CAN NOT bite ppl use the flat side of ur palm whenever it starts to bite the bird will find that it cant bite u cuz the your palm is flat and she will soon find shes not able to bite u cuz she finds that it is no use to bite use. let your family hold her as well and get them to feed her treats so that she sees them as a friend and not a threat. Do all that and u'll find she will be much nicer to others :D. U can also try doing a little blow at her face whilst she is biting u so she can expect that every time she bites u. my sis has a female cokatiel as a pet they are little nippers to so they get the same treatment.

simple when she goes to bite say no in a firm voice . you dont say if she is hand reared if so let her out of her cage , make sure all windows and doors are closed talk to her after all these birds need attention
