How can I teach my conure to stop biting?

How can i teach my macaw to stop biting?

• i have a blue and gold macaw hes about 4 months old, if hes on his cage he bites unless hes on your arm but even then sometimes he tries to bite...what can i do to teach him to stop biting.... i dont want to be scared to hold him as he will notice and try to bite more! thanks!!

  He probably does not want to come out. My Green wing macaw used to be like this, until we 'convinced' him that coming out of his cage is funner than staying in! I recommend getting a long round dowel of wood, and using that to get him out of his cage, just make him step up on it, if he won't, leave his cage open and he will be curious and come out. Buy a stand if you don't already have one and put some toys on it, and give him some of his favorite foods while hes on it. This will teach him that coming out=good food, so he will want to leave his cage. When folding him, if he bites, just put him back on his stand and walk away. He wants attention and yelling at him for biting you is giving him what he wants, so he will bite you more. Negative reinforcement just doesn't work with birds. I hope this helps!
