What is birds nest?

I found a birds nest, what should I do?

  • I found a birds nest in the middle of my lawn with 4 baby birds in it. Me and my sister put it in a tree, we used gloves so we didn't get our sent on the nest. However, I don't know if the mother will be able to find them. They didn't chirp at all and only had feathers on their wings.

  • Answer:

I was just going to say dont touch it. Just keep an eye on them.Next time leave them where they were cuz she prob would find them. She still may smell a strange scent even from the gloves.

Believe me when I tell you that if you put the babies in a tree close to the area where you found them the parents will find them. They will get a little hungry and they will get loud enough for the parents to hear them. Birds have a fairly poor sense of smell.

The parents will find them, they can find even the littlest chirps believe me. You did the right thing, leave the nest alone, and just keep an eye on them to make sure the nest doesn't fall again.

Anyone who says that the mother will smell humanscent is talking rubbish. With the exception of vultures and a few relatives, birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell, so you don't need to worry about touching the nest or chicks if you need to move them. Believe me, the parents will most definitely find them. Birds' hearing makes up for their scent glands; meaning, their hearing is exceptional! Even the smallest rustle or cheep from the chicks will tell the parents where their children are. You did the right thing in moving the nest to a more sheltered area. In the lawn it is easy prey for hawks, cats, bobcats, etc. Try to keep an eye on the nest from your house window or something similiar. If the parents don't return by tomorrow, check on the nest again. If you still do not see any sign of the parents, try to call an avian rehabilitation center, or an exotic veterinary. Probably the wind blew the nest down. Keep the birds warm and call a bird rescue group in your area. Here in Northern California is the Lindsey Museum ...in Concord. Or if you don't know of any, call the SPCA...they will be able to tell you what to do.

you could take it to an animal shelter, but the mother might come back looking for her babies. i once found a baby bird and i placed it in a box. the mother came back and fed it sometimes.

bring it to a vet the mother probily left or hand feed them yourself
