How can I keep the indoor pool warm?

How can I keep my ducks from pooping in our pool?

  • I know you can't potty train a duck, because they can't hold it. I'm talking about duckie diapers maybe? My mom said I'll have to get rid of them and set them free at a pond because they're ruining out pool. I'm worried and sad. I've become attached to my ducks and I can't let them go. Is there anything I can do to keep them from pooping in the pool?

  • Answer:

It's obvious that you have never marked your territory by taking dumps in the pool yourself. I think if you establish your domain in this way the ducks will find a more suitable place to do their business.

Fence off an area for them. They do make birdie diapers, but you would need to change them all day long, just like a baby. Don't release them, as you know, they will die, not to mention it is illegal. If you need to find a new home for them, call farmers, and zoos.

You cannot keep them from being ducks. You can build a fenced yard for them with their own little pool. If you set them free at a pond, they will likely be killed by dogs as they trust people. Build an enclosure or find someone who will take care of them.

This is just the way ducks are made and what they do in nature. My dad says,"Ducks and geese just take two steps and poop, take two steps and poop." As for letting them go at a pond. Only wild, native or migrating species of ducks and geese may be released into the wild. If this is a public lake, that is man made, it is not legal to release domestic or tame ducks into the wild. Yours are pets and rely on you to feed them on a daily basis, wild ducks are sometimes feed by people, but they will leave and go to someplace warmer in the fall and winter, and know how to fend to themselves. Tame birds can't do this, what will happen to your bird come winter. Also your birds aren't as afraid of people as a wild bird would be, so they are more likely to get into trouble by begging for food, and tame birds can carry illness that wild birds will then pass on to other birds as they travel and migrate. Check with a 4H club and see if someone can take your birds or try the animal shelter or a humane society.
