Is it possible for spiders to lay eggs under your skin?

Is it true that spiders can lay eggs under your skin?

  • Okay so I've been having this small bump on my arm [it looks like this:http://0.tqn.com/d/create/1/0/C/8/6/-/spider-bite.jpg]for a while now & to be honest I had no idea a spider bite until my friend saw and told me. She said that she had one that looked just like the one I have right now & that they we're laying eggs under her skin so she had to go to the doctor & they opened it and took them out (something like that) and she said that I should go to the clinic ASAP to get checked so I did and they told me that it probably is just blood accumulated (something like that) and that they're just going to give me some antibiotics and a cream for the area. But I remember a week ago it hurted & sometimes blood comes out of it and then it started to get a little green/dark and I think even a little bit bigger and everytime I squeeze it blood comes out and well I guess what I'm trying to ask is it true that spider can lay eggs under your skin & what can I do to get rid of this spider bite?

  • Answer:

No. That is just an urban myth. The photo could possibly be a spider bite, but looks more like a boil, cyst,or maybe a staph infection. If you apply a little pressure to it and the pain increases significantly, it is more likely a skin condition. Usually, these will heal nicely on their own,but if it becomes severe, you should see a doctor. http://www.burkemuseum.org/spidermyth/myths/skineggs.html

Under? False, false, false. :) This is actually a pretty popular urban legend. Laying eggs ON skin... I don't know about that. Might be possible. If you're really concerned, call the clinic. It's probably nothing to be overly worried over. Don't panic. :) The only bug I'm aware of that likes to eggify human skin is the human bot fly. But you'd know if you had one of those. I had to treat enough of those working at a country vet's office. :/

Not

To be honest, I think your friend is messing with you. Do some research on the internet to check and see, but I'm pretty sure it's a joke. Don't take is too seriously, but if it starts to bother you or you think she's telling the truth, call a doctor or a clinic or something to get an answer from an expert. Good luck!

Spiders lay eggs under your skin only in bad movies, in the minds of misinformed friends, and in internet hoaxes. Spider eggs are NOT laid under anyone's skin.

This is the BIRD department. Since you are obsessed with this bump, to see a doctor.

Yes. My best friend's cousin said it was so painful. Her parents decided to bring her to the hospital and i don't know what they did.

YES it's true! You MUST get that taken care of it's very painful when the bubble burst's... I had one of the back of my calf. You need to go back to the clinic and tell them it's a nest and must be taken care of. I ended up having to burn mine to close it (and trust me, you don't want to wait until that's your only option).
