How do I hand feed baby parakeets?

How to hand feed baby parakeets?

  • Answer:

You will need a syringe and a bag of Kaytee Exact Baby Bird Food. Add hot water to the powdered food and mix until the thickness of pudding Take a spoon of it and put your upper lip into it. If it is quite warm it is ready to feed to them. Fill the syringe and with your thumb on the plunger, hold the baby in your left hand and push gently on the outside edge of the tiny beak. When it opens put the syringe in and squeeze out a drop or two of the warm formula. Once the babies realize that being held and feeling the syringe touch their beak means ----food, warm food, they will easily open their beaks the next time you feed. Do not get food onto them and if you do, wipe it off with a warm, damp paper towel. Put them back into the container (I use a basket) with a clean dish towel (no loops of material on it) over a hearing pad on low and cover with a dark towel until next feeding. Depending on how old they are they may need to be fed every half hour. Do Google - hand raising baby parakeets (budgies). Good luck. You may email me if you like.
