What is birds nest?

A birds nest with an egg (blue clored) has fallen from a tree in my backyard, what can I do to save the egg.?

  • I am not sure of what brach the nest fell off. This is a big oak tree. Should I just take a ladder and put the nest back on any branch? Will the mother bird come back to incubate the egg? This was after a big storm tore through our town late Thur. night. Any suggestions are welcome, I would like to save this nest & egg and return it properly to the wild.

  • Answer:

It's probably a robin's nest, and has most likely already been abandoned :(

I have has very good luck with parent birds coming back for eggs and babies. You can try securing it in the tree and watch and wait. You could try to hatch it yourself with a little incubator but it's a real pain. A wildlife organization MIGHT take the egg for you, it's worth a shot.

I think you should put it back where it came from but don't disturb it too much.

The fall probably destroyed the embryo.
