What is the best technique on making my parakeets eat fruits and veggies?

  • I've researched a lot on how to take of parakeets and it said to feed them fruits and veggies. I have three parakeets who only eat millet because I give them a seed diet with a lot of millet in it-came with it regularly. But I've been trying to feed them fruits and veggies for about 2 months. I've had for about 3 months now. They are all about 7-9 months old. I've been trying to feed them cabbage, apples, egg, grapes, bananas, and I covered them all with millet but never ate it. They never eat it when it is in a little bowl that I out it in but when I put it near their face they only touch it with their beaks and not eat it. They fly around like crazy when they see fruits or veggies. PLS HELP.

    for one millet is only supposed to be used sparingly as a treat only A all seed diet is not healthy either, You need to get them on a Pellet diet and only feed them 2 tablespoons of the seed food a day no more then that, as for fruits and veggies i am still tryin to get mine to eat it, Budgies like thier fruits and veggies wet, so when you wash them ( you have to wash them off before feeding them because of pestacides used on them, and the crap the stores spray them with), Leave em wet and hang them from thier cage, and just keep trying to introduce them to it every day, you also want to make sure your only giving them safe foods, NO seeds or cores from the apples I gave mine some Mixed vegies ( out of the can) last night and I used a small nutri berry i have ( they are also treats) and i crushed it up and sprinkled it over the veggis and they ate it, and i know they got the veggies too the proof was all over thier beaks :)

Let me answer your question by telling you a story. These two guys were talking about there dogs one bragged that he had special mineral enhanced dog food flown in for his dog. The other guy said that his dog ate green beans. My dog would never eat green beans the first man said. The other man smiled and said mine wouldn't either for about four or five days. Or just chop up what you want it to eat let it sit on the food and it will eventually taste and smell like what you want it to eat the bird will obtain a sense of smell and taste for it and will eat it (in theory).
