When will my budgie/parakeet lay an egg?

Why didn't my pair lovebird lay egg?

• Hi everyone,I been keeping a pair of lovebird since last year.I did a DNA test and they are 1 male and 1 female. About half a year ago.they laid an egg in the nest box,I waited for about a month and check the nest box again.its still an egg nothing more.so i decided to threw it away since the egg have been in the nest box for a month. Ever since the day i threw the egg away they hasnt been laying any egg.This is what really concern me as i been wanting them to breed.They been mating quite alot but they just dun lay egg. Can anyone advise me on this?Btw,they love playing the toy i gave them.does that make them not to lay egg?

  There is no way to know which bird has fertility problems, it could be the male or female or both. Depending on their age and past history they may not be able lay fertile eggs. DNA tests can get screwed up so you may want to have the test done again. If you don't know the age of the birds you might have birds beyond their breeding prime. Breeding birds require longer periods of daylight as well as warmer temps. Obviously at least one of them is a hen if you had an egg last year. Be sure the birds are eating extra calcium. Cuttle bone if they'll eat it but also crushed egg shell fr cooked eggs. Chick starter from the farm & feed store is also a good source of calcium. You can't learn everything about breeding lovebirds before you start but learn as much as you can by reading current books and web sites.
