My bird doesn't know how to use her cuttle fish bone. I used to have 2 peach faces and they used to file and clean each others beaks. It was very cute! =] But unfortunately one of them died and now the other bird doesn't know how to use the cuttle fish bone. she uses EVERYTHING in her cage except for the fish bone. How can I show her how to use it?? Please help! thank you!

Answer:
go for the sandy perch.... leave the cuttle bone in the cage though be careful about introducing a new bird if you decide to get another get a seperate cage and slowly let them get used to each other.... do not just shove a new bird in with the original bird

Your bird may not like the cuttlefish bone. It may simply prefer a perch designed to wear down the nails. A bird I used to have would only rub its beak on the rough perch, never on the cuttlefish.

To be honest. You can't really teach her how to. She has to figure it out on her own. I'm a Vet Tech so I've worked with birds. She might be missing her buddy if she use to use it then stopped. Give her time. You might also want to get her a new friend. If she sees the other one do it then she'll follow along. Good luck!

I would touch it in front of her and play with it so that she sees its not something harm full. My parrots used to be afraid of things until i interact with them and the object and then they were just fine with it.

that's a hard one if she doesn't know what its for she isn't going to use it right a way,try just hanging it up on the side like you would and see if her own curiosity fixes the prob some times the simple way works, try the birdchannel.com for more info
She may not like the cuttle bone get a sandy perch and she can file her beak on it my birds all like sandy perches. This is also good to keep the talons dull. Get some type of toy to chew on to keep her beak dull. There many other things that work. She may never use it

Dont listen to the folks telling you to chew on it yourself, or scratch your nails on it...it won't do any good. Like the Vet-Tech said -- she is probably missing her buddy. Most birds are sociable and will act funny when their companion dies or leaves. She'll learn how to use it, or find another way to file/clean up her beak. It's in their nature.

Thats a really sad story - BUT I DON'T THINK SHE WILL USE IT - IT WILL JUST REMIND HER/HIM OR HER/HIM BIRD FRIEND. YOUR BEST BET IS TO LET HER/HIM HAVE A MORNING PERIOD AND THEN INTRODUCE A NEW BIRD. BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR PETS. - love jane p

i'm no expert, but i would guess that she would eventually learn how to use it out of curiosity and observing your other living bird using it. good luck!

train her the same way you would train a dog.
