How can I tell the age of my cockatiel?

How can you tell a cockatiel's age?

  • My male and female cockatiels have been together for a long time now. They were the last two left in a pet store that was probably going to close. They had probably bonded there. One has a leg band and I can't get close enough(She doesn't really trust me yet) to read it but I know it has the year 2008 on it. So she could be anywhere from 5 months to a year old. I have no Idea how old the male is. The female does look bigger than the male. I don't know if this means that she is older or if females are always bigger than males. neither really have a lot of wear on their beaks. Also, the make seems to have lost a toe nail somewhere along his journey. It doesn't seem to bother him though.

  • Answer:

There is no way you can find out the exact age unless you have had it since it was born but the darker the bird is the older it is and the lighter it is the younger it is.
