Are pied crows considered class III wildlife?

  • I have done a little reading on owning crows and ravens and now I'm a little confused. I've read in some states you don't need a license to keep African pied crows but in some you do. I went to my states fish and wildlife site and it doesn't say much about class III wildlife. It is very descriptive of class I and class II wildlife. The class III wildlife application seems simple but I couldn't find any caging requirement information. If you could provide me with any specific information on class III wildlife please do.

  • Answer:

Go to the Crows Yahoo Group. They are a wonderful bunch and will be able to answer just about any question you could imagine. It is a great resource for anyone with any interest in corvids. I thought one day I'd have a crow, but their stories made me realize that for all involved it's best if I just admire them out in the wild or in others care. (They didn't coerce me into changing my mind, I came to the conclusion on my own.) They stay very up to date on the laws, and are very knowledgeable about different methods in caring for corvids. Even if you don't get a crow, it's still fun to hang out there and share in their joy (and and support when needed,) and learn more about our feathered friends. Best of luck!
