I lost my snake in my car, can someone tell me if he is dead, hibernating, or if he could have gotten out?
-
My sister and I own a Ball Python. She was at her house with the snake. She had to bring it to my house so she could go to work. Her boyfriend the cage we put our snake in when we travel. My sister put him in an old purse. He got out of the purse on went into my sisters snow boots. Our weather has been around 7-20 degrees. The snake slithered out of my sisters boot and went up under the steering wheel. When my sister got to my house (A 20 minute drive) She said she could see the snake when she looked under the wheel. He had wrapped himself into the wires. My sister tried grabbing up to get him but she chickened out because she was afraid he would bite her. Our python is only a baby. He had no fangs yet. I told my sister i would grab him but me being younger (by two years) She wouldn't have let me. This happened on Thursday afternoon. It is Tuesday Evening. Many people say the snake died.. Many say he is hibernating. Many say he got out of the car. My sister and I do not know what to do or think. We look in the car daily and hope he comes out but he doesn't. Wouldn't anyone know anything about Cars & Pythons?

Answer:
One pythons do not get fangs. They have teeth and it doesn't hurt when they bite. I have a ball python and i got it and it bit me all the time and it rarely hurt. But since ball pythons are meant to hibernate in temps no cooler than sixty degrees. Your snake has probably frozen ti death a very painful death. And you should be more responsible in transporting your snake. Take it in a enclosed box with tape to keep it in. Not a purse with all these holes to where he can get out. If you are going to have a pet you need to take care of it and transport it responsibly. So do this if he is dead and you are getting another one.

Ball Pythons, along with any other snakes, are masters at escaping...When they see the chance they will slither away. They will cram in the most unimaginable spots. Trust me, if its warm, he will not leave the spot. No cold-blooded animal would risk their lives in the cold. Wherever he is, he is staying. And he is more than likely to be more active when the car is on, but you don't want to risk that he has sneaked into the engine...So bad news, to avoid killing your snake, you need to have the car taken apart...He will not come out by himself, and it's doubtful that wherever he is your going to be able to reach him otherwise. Hope this helps, and good luck finding him!

First of all it is very clear that you don't know that much about snakes. Your story isn't that clear either. When it's that cold out you should never bring a snake into that weather unless its an emergency. And when it is an emergency you put warm water in a water bottle then put bedding at the bottom of a medium sized storage bin (depending on the snake, make sure the bin has small holes in it), place the snake in it and then cover with a thick blanket. It is very possible that your snake has died since you said it was young and its been in there for awhile. If I were you I would put a small pinkie in the car and then watch to see if he comes out, but be careful because if it's hungry and hasn't eaten you might get bite.

i saw something on tv once the snake might of gotten out and went into the dashboard immediatly take it to a machanic who can open up the dash and check

i agree. take it to a mechanic,as for hibernating i dont beleive pythons hibernate <a warm tropical living snake> but it is possible he left to find a warmer place once the car cooled down, hopefully he went into your house to keep warm just by coincidence.

The snake might have got out from under the steering wheel and put a whole under the seat, and may be hiding there also trying to stay warm. Pythons love to hide, and when they hide, they hide well. Hopefully this helps. :)

It is most likely hiding because it doesn't want to be with a human( i mean no offence, but put yourself in the eyes of the python) how would you like to be in a cage?

Unless the doors have been wide open, he is probably still in the car. With the temperature being low, he has slowed his body movement to reserve heat. If he is too cold, unfortunately he can die. Put on a pair of brown cloth gloves and try to retrieve him. Boas and balls have a row of a number of teeth turned back for gripping. They are small, but are hooked backwards to hold the prey. They do not have large fangs such as rattlesnakes or cobras. They are non venomous, so at the most, you might get a scratch.

either way dead or alive you need to get the car taken apart. because there is a chance he is alive i would do it asap! if you really think it is alive keep the car warm. start it periodically to keep the thing warm. that a python is a tropical snake it needs to be warm and will die if it hasn't already. I the snake dies in your car you need to get it out soon anyway spring will come and your car will smell like rotting snake.
