What is wrong with my Bearded Dragon?

What is wrong with my bearded dragon?

  • alright well about a week ago i noticed changes happening to my bearded dragon. he is only about a year or two old so i thought he was going through some phases. but now he hasn't eaten in 3 days. no matter what i give him crickets, shaved carrots, dandelion greens, or raseberries (his favorite). i don't understand whats wrong. plus his beard has turned to a brownish black instead of its usually yellow orange. his tank is in my basement so could he be not getting enough heat? possibly to much heat? i really can't figure out whats wrong with him! please help! thank you

  • Answer:

It could be a number of things. 1. Impaction. Is he defecating and moving normally? 2. Temperatures. You didn't say what the temps are, so I can't tell you much there. If your going top have a reptile, you need to know what the temperatures are, and what he needs. 3. Uvb. Does he have a good uvb light on him 12-14 hours a day? And is it not more than 6 months old? 4. He could be brumating. Here is some info if you don't know what that is... http://www.beardeddragon.org/articles/brumation/

The color of his beard suggest he is in distress. Dragons r not to picky on heat but they do need a heat lamp on them for waking hours if the day. ( that is in a room that is typically kept at about 70 degrees and at night a blue night lamp. If he has not ate after a week take him to a vet.
