How to weight a corn snake?

Corn snake wont eat?

  • I am already seeing that you guys get this question many times. I would like to think this case is special, but I hope not. Corn snake, 14" 7-8 months old 11.8 grams Refused to eat for nearly 4 months Wont eat brained mouse Very active still, no signs of weakness, not getting skinny, yet, hasn't shed for as long as she hasn't ate. She pooped yesterday! Last meal was 2 pinkie mice, almost 4 months ago, and she poops when we tried to offer a brained pinkie. What I ask you is this, 1.How long can a snake go without food (last meal looked like she swallowed a battery) 2.She is close to a shed, but it's already taken this long. We were going to wait until this before taking drastic measures, good move? 3.Does ANYBODY have a chart showing the proper weight for a snake this size? (come on, most popular snake in the pet trade and no growth chart?!) 4.The poop, after 4 months she releases it, possible she has enough nutrient from the last meal and just dosn't feel the need to eat?

  • Answer:

No it shouldn't be possible most snakes usually eat once a week to every two weeks. I think you should take him to see a vet.

Go to this site http://cornsnakes.com/forums/ and search for the "Munson feeding plan". It will give you sizes and feeding recommendations. Your corn sounds small for that age. 2 pinkies is too much...try one small. Make sure the pinkie is very very warm...I soak mine (frozen) in very hot water for 20 seconds before feeding. The snake senses heat so it must be very warm. She may have had a partial blockage from over eating. Make sure your heat temps are correct--an under tank heat pad is necessary with surface temps at 85F. A bowl to soak in is a must to keep up humidity. Do not feed on substrate that can be swallowed--this can also cause impaction.
