How do I know whether my ball python is pregnant?

How will I know if my Ball Python is going to bite me?

  • I have just gotten a ball python and i want to hold him but i do not know when to put him down, i do not want to get bitten by him. Can anyone tell me how ill know if he is going to bite me and what this strike position looks like

  • Answer:

first off if you just got your snake don't handle it for a week. let it get used to it's new surroundings. the normal strike position is when a snake gets it's neck in the s position. not always though. while it is true that most ball pythons don't bite and that they would rather "ball up" than bite, ball pythons can bite. i've been bitten 3 times by my male bp. all during feeding time. he didn't s up he just turned around and bit. also my female gets in the s position almost everytime i get her out of the tank but she never bites. anyway this is a picture of what people mean by s position. http://www.flickr.com/photos/deesnke/521433788/

Ball pythons dont "bite". They are a very docile species of snakes. They only bite what they are gonna attack and thats only really after they have strangled their live food. IT might bump its nose into you, usually accidentally, because it was startled, but never as an attack technique. Dont be afraid to grab it, because thats the best way you can get it used to you holding it.

ball pythons are one of the friendliest breeds of snake, and rarely bite their owner, if a snake tends to feel threatened, it will tense, bringing it's neck back, and holding it there. But the first reaction of a ball python when it's tense, nervous or feels threatened, is to ball up, make themselves into a small ball. Hence the name, "ball python" . when you go to set him back in his cage, or tank, just set your hand near the floor, or near a small branch in the cage or tank, the snake will slide from your hand to whatever it's next to. allow him time to grab the branch or floor with his scales, and slowly remove your hand when he's gotten a good hold. as far as biting goes, i've two ball pythons; the only time mine has struck at me, is when i had the food in hand, and they mistook my hand for the mouse. in essence, i've learned to drop the mouse, or now rat pup into the tank, and sit back and watch them. in short, unless they feel extremely threatened, it's rare a ball python will strike you. good luck.

When you find a bunch of holes in your arm then it might have bit you. No, it will bend it's neck into an "s" shaped position, and it will probably hiss. Ball pythons are very reluctant to bite. I've tried to get them to bite me before (when I was younger then I am and not quite as knowledgeable) with no luck. Even with my hands smelling like rats I am confident that my ball python won't bite. I hope this helps.

I have never heard of anyone being bitten by a ball python. I've had one for about 6 months, and she's never come close to biting me. Ball pythons don't "strike", as far as I know (and I know a good deal about them). All other snakes strike, but balls curl up in a tight ball when they're scared. That's why they make such great pets! Since your snake is new, I'd say wait a good 3 days before handling him. Just so he can get used to being in his new home. Then, after 3 days, hold him twice a day or so for just a few minutes. As he gets more used to the environment, and you, you can start holding him for longer and longer. Just be gentile and calm with your snake, and you won't get bitten at all. Have a great time, ball pythons are AWESOME pets!!

The position is kinda like an "S", just dont do anything to make him upset and you should be okay.

Don't take it out or touch it. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!!! Just feed fish in a bowl and he will eat you. I saw a snake it sticks it's tongue.
