Is it possible to go on holiday to Chlamydia?

Is it possible to leave a snake alone for about 2 weeks when you go away on holiday?

  • I may be buying a snake soon but a problem would be what to do when I go on holiday does anyone know if they can be left alone and if so which breeds? thanks

  • Answer:

It depends what kind of snake you get. Garter snakes will eat mice, earthworms, fish, frogs, slugs and even meat. The frequency of feeding depends on the food being offered, and the size of snake. Adult snakes are usually fed once or twice a week on a fish-based diet. Snakes fed on mice will only require feeding once a week. Babies need more frequent feeds, and for the first two months of life are usually fed on alternate days. This provides a rapid growth. Baby corn snakes need to eat 1 baby mouse every 3 ~ 5 days for the first 8 ~ 12 weeks, followed by 2 baby mice every 4 ~ 7 days. Adult corn snakes will probably eat an adult sized mouse every week, but only need to eat every 7 ~ 14 days to avoid getting fat. A word of warning: If two snakes grab opposite ends of a worm, the faster snake will sometimes just keep eating, until he has finished the worm and the snake attached to the other end of the worm. Invariably this results in the death of both snakes.

snakes can go for a really long time without eating. Just make sure you have the light on a timer, clean the cage, fill the water up and feed him before you leave. I've done it many times!

I don't know of a snake alive that can't survive if not thrive for 2 weeks with no care. I can't believe that anyone would worry about such a thing. As long as the temps stay up, and the snake has water, it can live for months without food, provided it is not a juvenile. It is better for most snakes to only feed once every 2 weeks anyway.

Ask your pet store if they offer a care service whilst you are on holiday because they usually do, for cash of course. I suppose if you fed the snake a lot and used the plug timers so that the lights for the snake would turn on and off at a certain time it might be okay, but it would be better to ask ur pet store!

Snakes can go awhile without eating - but a responsible pet owner does not want to intentionally deny their pet food. Additionally, the temperature and humidity (if required) levels need to be monitored and maintained, and their cages need to be cleaned. Most snakes are very low maintenance and very easy to care for once their environmental needs are met. Instead of leaving them alone, consider asking a friend or neighbor to drop by once or twice a week just to check in, clean the cage if needed, and feed the snake. If the snake is eating insects, it shouldn't be hard to find someone who is willing.

In theory yes. BUT morally, no. If anything goes wrong - fire, theft, blackout, flood - your snake won't have a chance, it would die, and as easy as it is to convince yourself that this would never happen... its does, every day to someone.

I would not advise it. What if your electricity goes out and the cage gets to cold? What if all his water evaporates? You should be able to find a vet near you that would board him while you are gone.
