Why do some people like turtles and snakes for pets???

  • when i was growing up in the late 60's i loved turtles and snakes but they r reptiles they belong in the wild .for those who have red ear sliders try to make a pond in your yard keeping turtles as pets is hard they need the sunlight not artifial light if u love turtles like i do leave them in the wild u can see them along creeks and rivers ..can u think about it ? if u was a turtle would u like to be in a glass aqurium ,some stuff i read on answers some people don't know what they eat ect...thats why u should leave them in the wild ,not many vets treat turtles..snakes and reptiles..sorry if i am coming down hard but the fact is there not like a cat or dog all reptiles belong outside not in a glass tank,,,,,sorry if i offended anyone..like i said i love turtle snakes thats why i feel like i'm there voice ..strange huh...

    1. they have no fur to clean up 2 they dont bark or meow 3 they dont need to be walked 4 keeps your mother in law and other assorted dummies away 5 you can leave them alone for a few days 6 snakes dont have to be fed every day 7 they dont need no shots 8 no stupid lil foo foo clothes 9 we can breed our own food did you know that up 90% of all reptile hatchlings die in their 1st year in the wild? all my snakes are healthy and happy most of them born here in the US and they are morphs. Humans have tamed cats, birds and wolfs and wolf to be pets and companions, they didnt belong in caves either. As long as you can provide for your reptile there is nothing wrong with owning one.

Some reasons some people may like turtles and/or snakes for pets are... 1. Exotic animals 2. They don't make noises like a dog barking. 3. They usually don't require a pet deposit from rental properties. 4. They don't scratch up the furniture like cats. 5. No hair sheddings. 6. You don't need a pet sitter if you go out for the weekend with a snake or turtle as you would a cat or dog. 7. Snakes and turtles don't require as much attention as dogs or cats. 8. Don't need to worry about housebreaking a snake or turtle. 9. Snakes and turtles won't attack the mailman or meter readers. 10. Turtles and snakes don't beg for food while you are eating, or climb on the kitchen counters.

When i was a kid we had 6-100ish pounds sulcata they were like dogs they came over to you they where happy. Heck i think they would have hated the wild. We sold there babies for 50 bucks each I'm sure there is a few hundred of them around making great little pets. We had no problems finding vets that's for sure :) Maybe you're in a small town?

Why do some people like dogs or cats or even rabbits or snails, for pets? It a matter of personal taste. You raise some good points, but as long as they are provided for properly, ALL animals can lead happy, healthy lives, even in captivity.

why is everybody else wrong because they don't agree with you. grow up, people have animals because they do want to take care of them. with biuldings and malls going up everywhere alot of animals have no home. i sure they are happy to have ponds and someone to feed them

Some people have rescue turtles, like me, who have been in captivity since birth and would die in the wild. So rather than releasing them I have kept them and educated my self on their needs and care, that may be why they are about 15 years old and in perfect health. wild animals belong in the wild but please don't encourage people to "set free" their domestic pets. thanks.

I have 1 dog, 2 rabbits, 2 turtles, and 1 lizard. I am a animal lover and take care of all my pets. It is a matter of personal taste. As long as they are taken care of properly, what's the problem???

I agree that reptiles are happier in their own climates, unfortunately the pet industry doesn't think so and buys/imports these animals. I have a tortoise that my friend bought from a pet shop in Russia, she seems quite happy in her tank. Humans are ruining her natural habitat, until people stop messing with eco-systems I'll happily take animals into my home.

dood there geting beter care then the have in the wild and plus if the bred in captivity do u think that they know about the wild I DONT THINK SO gosh u need help
