My turtle won't open its eyes...help?

My turtle won't open his eyes?

  • His eyes are puffed up, there is NO way of him opening them and this has gone on for about a month. I am pretty sure he has not eaten at all, and he is quite skinny. I tried to feed him, took him to the vet, used eye drops, you name it. But nothing works! I just lost one to mouth rot and I know he does not have a disease because I checked for respitory and mouth rot, and she'll rot....etc. WHAT do I do?? I don't want to looses him... Please helpw

    Keep the water in the tank exceptionally clean and raise the temperature by 5 degrees. Also try and introduce more vitamin A into his diet. I would try and find a different vet - eye infections are easily treated and the vet you saw should have been able to help.

Oh my gosh! I'm sure the vet can figure it out just tell him/her all the symptoms and hopefull they can figure out whats wrong, but thats def. not normal!

Eye problems are usually one of two things. a vitamin A deficiency or a respiratory infection. Is it a water turtle? or box turtle? knowing that will help out a lot. If the vet don't know, then nobody knows. Flush it away with the retired goldfish in the China mortuary or let it go in a pond and let nature take its course.. It either lives or don't. It is out of your control. Otherwise put it on dry sandy soil and leave it be. It could be molting(losing a layer of skin) They generally do not eat during this period. Just let it have a period where it can dry. It is not a fish. As it dries, the skin or yeast infection will die off as well.
