My chameleon is doing really bad?

My chameleon is dying what should I do?

  • I have had a male Veiled Chameleon for a little over a year. I was feeding him and giving him water with vitamins like I was supposed to. I forgot that the UVB light needed to be checked ever 4 to 6 months. I noticed some changes in my chameleon (named Vesilli) so I remembered about the light and brought it in for inspection. The light was not giving any UV rays whatsoever. I bought a new light but it was already to late. Vesilli has Metabolic Bone Disease(MBD) I think. I researched online the effects of MBD and he isn't showing most of them. But he can no longer shoot his tongue and won't eat. He hasn't eaten in over a month and he is still just chillin in he cage as if nothing is wrong. He moves around, drinks water, Gets all puffy when someone gets to close. I don't understand how he is still alive. I feel really bad cause he is my pet and it is my fault he is in this situation. I really don't know what I am asking here. What do you think I should do?

Call a vet who specializes in exotic animals. Maybe he's just too sick to eat and can be treated with a medicine. Definitely try the vet, if you think he's already dying, then what have you got to lose, right?

Put him out of his misery. Hes will die in pain.

ussually animals like that can go a while withou food or water..my neighbor had one and it did that multiple times that doesnt mean ignore the problem but it can just be a harmless action its choosing to make...just always keep food and water in the habitat he might be eating at night...

I would say make a feeding cup, type feeding cup instructions into youtube for help. count and see if he ever eats any of the crickets. If it is only his tongue that has the problem, i wouldnt say he has mbd. his legs and feet would most likely have problems and im sure he would not be climbing from branch to branch and just "chillin". Take him to a vet if you have not already and I would say replace the bulb if you havent already. Try force feeding, but as chameleons are very stressful animals, im sure he will not take it well and get so stress he will just die anyway. If he gets to the point of no return, like going to the bottom of his enclosure, or close to death, put him in a bag in the freezer, this is the most humane way of putting him down rather than letting him suffer. His systems will go out one by one and he will eventually drop to a body temp that he cannot revive himself.
