Baby western fence lizard won't eat?

• I got a baby western fence lizard it is 1 inch long, not including the tail. The day I got it I gave him a very small pillbug that was smaller then the space between his eyes and he ate it. The next day I bought him pinhead crickets, he won't eat them! Then I gave him a few ants, he won't eat them! I really don't want it to die. I've heard that SOME baby reptiles will eat fruit or baby food. Can my baby WFL eat some till I get a hold of flightless fruit flies? Thank you very much

  Hmm, WFL's love ants, I'm surprised you couldn't get him to eat those. Keep trying them. Also try giving him waxworms, phoenix worms, non-poisonous spiders, and continue offering the crickets (as well as any other very small bugs). They are carnivorous and will not eat fruit or baby food. A rule of thumb with many reptiles "Never feed anything larger than the space between it's eyes" Keep that in mind always. Larger items can cause impaction that eventually leads to death and they suffer horribly. Also, make sure the temperatures are correct for him. He will need temps of 80-90 during the day and 75-80 at night. A 75w light will be good for the basking spot (higher temp). Also make sure you have a UVB light that runs the length of the cage. (fluorescent light) A 5.0 should be fine. Never put the cage in the sun rays as this can kill the baby. A 10 gallon tank is suitable for your lizard. Use a mesh or wire cover (something good for ventilation) Hides should be provided in both the cool end of the tank and the basking end. Rocks, sticks, leaves, driftwood, and some dead log will be good cage 'furniture'
