What to expect after a lobectomy?

What to expect from a weimaraner/lab mix?

  • I just got my new puppy (rescued to keep her from ending up in a pound from someone who moved into a trailer park and didn't have enough room for her). Alright so here goes. I've grown up around dogs, and I have a mini daughtson who I've trained myself to sit, stay, come when called and roll over. So, I'm pretty good with dogs....when I know what to expect. My new dogs name is Jaden and she is (at 5 months and this being my first day and night with her) very playful and hyper. This is good, just what I'd expect from a dog her age. However; what else should I expect from the BREEDS that she's coming from? I've never had a weimaraner or lab but i've had an akita, retriever and shepherd. She's very sharp. Wit, I mean. In just 10 minutes I've already got her understand the concept of sit. I have to say it a few times, but she catches on fast. She seems sorta shy.. is this breed or just from the other house she was in before I got her? She breaths insanely fast and shallow when she sleeps.. is this normal? What else should I expect coming from this sort of mix? Any tips/hints would be great.. Oh yes, and she loves loves loves water. She drinks a ton of it and loves to dip her paws in. I'm suspecting this is the lab in her.. Any information on the mix is perfect, or on the separate breeds is appreciated.

  • Answer:

I have transported 5 chocolate lab/Weimaraner crosses now - young adults - they have been insanely hyper and mouthy (play biting, sometimes quite hard) dogs but very outgoing. Individually, I like the breeds but the mixes I have dealt with were dominant, way. way too hyper and hard to control. Very beautiful dogs and obviously, just coming out of shelters, they had been frustrated and full of pent up energy but I would say you are in for a real challenge. I don't think walks is going to burn out all that energy. Both breeds are sporting breeds and athletic, so maybe Frisbee or fly ball? Agility might be a good energy outlet also but at this age I would just keep working on socialization and basic obedience. Definitely a lot more energy than Akitas. The Lab/Weimer mixes made my Akita/Aussie mix look like a slug and she is high-energy.
