Is fading puppy syndrome common?

What are the best ways to help a "fading" puppy live?

  • My dog had pups almost 5 days ago. I have one puppy which is not doing well at all, but I don't want to give up on it. I have had pups die who look like this, but I have also had ones live. I am tube feeding it every 4-6 hours, giving it iv fluids 2-3 times a day as well. It is in the whelping box under a heat lamp, and is still extremely weak and hasn't been nursing at all. Sometimes I will carry it around under my shirt, for warmth and the sound of my heartbeat. Any other ideas? Am I giving the food or fluids often enough? Thanks for any/all ideas! : )

You're doing everything you can. Sometimes a pup just won't make it. Sorry.

take the other puppys away like in a box and put the runt and the mamma in a separate box for a while make sure to watch them though

It seems to me that you are doing everything right; a phone call to your vet may yield some other ideas. It's also possible that the pup may have a birth defect of some type. All I can say is keep doing what you're doing, keep him warm and hydrated, and hope for the best.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU, TAKE IT TO THE VET !!!!!!!!!

depp_lover

you are doing the right thing but prepare to call your vet and you can ask breeders what to do

It really needs to nurse. Try to help it. That's most likely the problem! But then again it should be getting the nutrients from the feeding tube and IV fluids. You can also try different vets or a pet hospital.

I KNOW THIS SOUNDS ODD BUT GO GET PEDIASURE FOR KIDS AND GIVE IT TO HIM ON THE TIP OF YOUR FINGER. NUZZLE HIM AND ALSO TRY AN EYE DROPPER FOR FEEDING. TRY AND RUB HIS BELLY IN SMALL GENTLE CIRCLES. ARE HIS BOWELS AND BLADDER FUNCTIONING? IF NOT CALL THE VET ASAP.

I had a dog stop feeding. I gave him baby cereal with evaporating pet milk. He was ok. Get flax seed oil with omega 3 in it that is helpfull with sickness and gives energy you can give it in an eye dropper... Keep doing the other things ur doing and good luck..

ask your vet for some other advice. i hope that puppy makes it through life. the best way to never deal with this again is to have your dog fixed so she can't have any babies anymore. it's for the better
