How do I train a puppy not to bite?

How can I train my new puppy to walk on a leash. and why does she whimper so much and bite a lot as well.?

  • I have a new Lab Puppy and she just got comfortable to going in and out of the house by herself. and now she bites and licks me, even-though i tell her no. she doesn't seem to want to understand, We really want to take her out on her leash but she doesn't want to move she simply sits down and stays there. I would appreciate some advice and tips(:

Is this your first puppy :) This is how puppies play, like babies they put everything in their mouths - puppies just have sharper teeth. To teach her not to bite so hard make a high pitched yelp or yip when she bites. Thats what her litter mates would do. You'll have to teach her to walk on a leash I'd recommend getting a harness for walking and putting that and the leash on her and sitting in your front yard and wait for her to start to move around when she starts to walk give her a treat and tell her how great of a puppy she is. Eventually she will learn that her leash means she gets to go outside for a walk and will get so happy and excited. Once she get about 10-12 weeks you can sign her up for a puppy class, which I totally recommend. It teaches you how to train your dog and it gives your dog the opportunity to get socialized with other people and dogs. Most petstores like petsmart and petco offer dog training in their stores and there are lots of stand alone dog training facilities, just do a google search for one in your area. Puppies whimper when you leave or when they can't find their pack, eventually she'll realize that just because you left the room or she can't see you doesn't mean you are gone forever.

All puppies balk at the leash at first. It is going to take some time and practice.Put the leash on the dog inside, give her a treat-this makes the leash a good thing.Let her drag the keash around in the house for a few minutes every day, which will make her more used to how it feels. Then start taking her on short walks, remmeber the treats! Good luck
