Stereotype pet peeve?

What is your pet peeve about dog owners? ?

  • My pet peeve is when a pet parent has their dog in a public place and has their dog on a long lead like a retractable lead and is not paying any attention to where their dog is. The dog either relieves himself on something and the pet parent does not clean it up, or their dog comes towards another dog without any supervision. This is also true at dog parks. Some pet parents do not clean up after their dog. Some pet parents do not supervise their dog while at the dog park.

  • Answer:

Oy, where do I start?! I also hate owners who allow their dogs to go 25 ft out on retractables and they pay no attention. Owners who don't pick up after their dogs is probably high on my list. Even at parks (regular parks) WITH doggie bag stations, I regularly have to watch out for doggie bombs. I am thinking of making little flags with frowny faces on them and sticking them in the piles everytime I almost step in one! Owners who allow their dogs offleash everywhere and anywhere and have no control of them. Basically, making it difficult for responsible owners to take their dogs places. Owners who email us wanting to give up their puppy they bought weeks ago because now they have no time for them. Owners who allow their dogs to live outdoors all the time and allow the dogs to bark inncessantly. Owners who walk their dogs on HUGE choke chains and prong collars for looks. Owners who don't spay and neuter yet have no clue about breeding or have no plans to properly raise a litter of puppies and find them good homes. Owners who look at my pitty and assume he's a vicious beast yet their armpit gator is the one going ballistic, trying to kill everything in sight. Owners who chain their dogs in the yard. Owners who neglect their dogs. Hmm...I know I'm forgetting something! ;)

People that call them "pet parents". Why are they not "owners" anymore????? I think that buys in to the thinking that many people have that the pet is their CHILD and that is why they let them act like they do.

ARE YOUR NEWFS GELLIN'?

Owners that lack responsibility and intelligence to keep an aggressive dog at home or muzzled. Its not a hard freaking concept.

Patient Paws

Ones that think they are the dogs mommy and daddy. They let the animal get away with stuff that they would be p.o'd if their child did. It is a companion not your child. Training is in order just as we train our children about acceptable behavior. Clean up your pets mess, you wouldn't leave trash lying around don't leave theirs.

Dog owners that let their dogs bark for hours when they're not home.

Dog Owners who know NOTHING about dog food and recommend Ol'Roy to people.

RACQUEL

Dog owners who make excuses for their dogs, rather than training them.

Loki Wolfchild

Dog owners that do not clean up their dog's poop. I have copies of the town law regarding dog clean up that I'm only one poop pile away from putting under people's doors.

This obsession with having our dogs "meet and greet." My dog doesn't want to meet unknown dogs. I've been training him on appropriate social behavior since I adopted him. Charging across the street with an unknown dog in tow, scaring the hell out of him does not help me teach him good social behavior. If people would just ASK first....
