Where To Buy Great Shape Today?

Have you ever been tempted to buy a pet store pup, even though you know it's wrong?

  • I was in a small pet store today to buy some plants for my pond, and they had four beautiful blue/fawn Chihuahua pups for sale. They were so tiny and cute that I was actually tempted to buy one!! They were $400.00,no papers, and 9 weeks old.One of them started sucking on my finger,so I questioned their actual age,but they were eating dry food and appeared to be in good shape. Of course I didn't buy one - but I WAS tempted. Have you ever been tempted even though you know it would be morally wrong?

  • Answer:

Oh, my! I have wanted to buy many such pups. Now, I don't go to pet shops that sell animals, and this keeps the temptation away. I still want to adopt every dog and cat that the shelter brings on adoption day...sigh..I'm hopeless. However, I think it is more ethically wrong, than morally wrong to buy a dog from a pet shop.

I probably would be tempted if I ever went into a pet store that sells live animals. I won't spend one red cent in a pet store that supports puppy mills though so I don't even bother going. Even if I was stranded and needed a drink of water, I would go in and use their fountain but not buy a bottle of water. And that would only be if there were no other options at all. If it's any consulation, there are lots of puppies (even "pure bred" - well as pure bred as they can get from BYBs) being dumped at shelters right now because of the economy BYBs aren't able to sell the entire litter, so they dump them when it ends up costing them money. You can always check them out if you are seriously interested. You can be placed on a waiting list as well. Best wishes to you and thank you for not buying the puppy!

My BFF is a Pitador!

When I was little I fell in love with a little Husky at the pet store. I took a picture of her even and I still have it! Of course we've all been 'tempted'. But temptation only goes so far. I would never ever actually purchase one of the dogs. I do feel awful for them, but then I go to work and feel even worse for all of the dogs whose owners abandoned them once they were no longer the cute puppy they once were.

Poodles NOT Doodles!

What I am going to say has nothing to do with puppies, yet puppies are a whole other part of my life. I have purchased birds with physical handicaps just because I knew no one else would buy them from pet stores. At least you are drawn by a healthy animal. LOL

Yes, so I don't go to petstores. Only Petsmart and the vet. Just close your eyes when you are by the puppies. Don't feed into temptation.

Always Forever

YES but then i go to a pound and see hundreds of dogs that are need of homes or they will die

Well, I did buy 2 of my boys from a pet store. That was before I new about puppymills and how pet stores support them. When I saw my dachshund in the store, his price was marked down repeatedly. He had started at $2499 if I remember correctly. He was born in May and we were at the store in October. The price he was at when we were there was $999. It broke my heart to think that if he had have been priced reasonably, he would have a home and not have to live in some display cage. And Joey, my Yorkie Chi mix was marked down also, but not nearly as much. We paid $1200 for him. Now I realize how much that doesn't make sense as he is technically a mutt, yet more expensive than a pure breed dachshund. Like I said before, I NOW know how wrong it is to buy pups from a pet store. So much so that I will not enter a pet store that sells puppies. I can't handle it emotionally. But if I hadn't bought Miles and Joey, I wouldn't have 2 of my babies, and I can't picture my life without them.

The adorable is tempting. I have fell in love with lots of pet shop puppies. It really is hard to say nope and turn and walk away.

I once saw the most adorable chow chow pup ever sitting in the cage at the petstore, she was so cute I almost needed her. But, I couldn't be one of the ignorant (by ignorant..I mean ill-informed) people and decide to get out of that place and to never return! I did find an even more adorable chow mix pup through a Chow rescue group (she had been wandering the Cleveland streets as an 8wk old pup) and we have been best pals since the day I adopted her, she is 5y/o now and comes with me to work everyday!! I LOVE MY CHOW MIX http://www.care2.com/c2c/photos/view/13/480926465/Silly_Animals__My_Rescued_Pets_/ming-ming.jpg.html add: Dick Goddard is a great animal advocate! I moved out-of from Clev. 4y/ago.....needed a change in scenery. (from buildings.. to Forests!!)

Yes I want to buy them all and give them wide open spaces to run for the rest of their lives, and find a wonderful home for all of them. Not just one of them, every pet store pup...they deserve to have a great life also Free the pets in cages and behind glass, then put the Pet Store owners in there instead and let the pups sell them for a change LOL That would be a hoot,a pup barking and saying now this ,man needs a diaper change every so often, but we only change him once a day. and he has had all his shots, but will need a stool check in a few weeks to make sure all his worms are gone LOL I would love it..
