How long does it take for a 7 year old golden retriever's hair to grow back?

So basically today I find my golden retriever completely shaved, expect his tail, because the hair cutter's mistake. My family and I are now wondering how long will it take for it to grow back because we miss his beautiful fur. (So far, we're guessing about 3 months.)

Expect hair growth of about 1/4 inch to 1/3 inch per month. He will be very itchy for the next few weeks. I have a breed of dog that is clipped close in some areas. This is the rate of growth I see. Also, I had an ill dog that was shaved frequently for surgeries and ultrasounds. This was a typical hair regrowth rate for her as well.
