I have a tooth in my upper gums, what is this called.

Dog and his chipped tooth?

• my dog had a dental done. later that week I noticed his left premolar (i believe thats what it's called) tip was chipped off, pretty badly in my opinion. I took him to the vet and they didnt have any record of any chipped teeth and just told me everything went well and there should be no problems. I remember the chip, it was the color of the tooth, the quick wasn't showing, no blood. now when I look at the chip, its a dark grey color. its not food, i messed around with it with a tooth pick and nothing came off. the dog showed no distress when I was playing with the grey part either. I believe that the level of his tooth called the dentin (i think thats what it's called) is showing and that is what the dark grey might be, like the tooth is dying or something. the gums aren't red, the dog shows no signs of tooth pain. when I open his mouth the tooth farthest back (next to the chipped tooth) the middle of that tooth looks to be the same color (dark grey) does any one know what this is and if I should be concerned? I don't want him to be in any pain, but he is not showing me if he is in pain at all. I would love to take him to the vet, but right now, I don't think they are the smartest in the world and I don't want to pay 50 dollars just for them to say, oh he's fine. or you need knock him out again so we can take a better look at it. his dental was done maybe 2 months ago. I dont want him to get put under again quite yet. Also his next vaccine visit isn't until july of 09, should I wait and have the tooth looked at then? Any help would be great!

  I would call the vet and ask them what they would do if you brought him in. If it's something that should be done - bring him in. If they say something like he's fine or anything else that you don't think needs to be taken care of right away, just have them check it out in July. Go with what you think because you are the only one who knows what it looks like and everything. Good luck:)
